“The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors”: A digital exhibition by the Swiss Embassy in Greece

On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2022, the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece, under the auspices of the Greek Presidency of the IHRA and in collaboration with the Jewish Museum of Greece proposes the digital exhibition “The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors” of the Gamaraal Foundation.

The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Religions of Greece.

Ambassador of Switzerland in Greece, H.E. Olaf Kjelsen, in his message underlined the following: “On the occasion of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution and this year’s Greek IHRA Presidency, it is important to underline the values of liberty, independence and human rights. Both Switzerland and Greece share these common values. The historical and current ties unites the Hellenic Republic and Switzerland and therefore creates a common ground for knowledge transfer and collaboration”. “As an active member and former chairman of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, Switzerland advocates for the prevention of further atrocities through remembrance and through programs aiming at ‘dealing with the past’”, Ambassador Kjelsen further highlighted.

The exhibition demonstrates, through biographies and portraits, what can result from anti-Semitism. Holocaust memory should be a warning that racism and anti-Semitism can have significant consequences. The exhibition targets above all the young generation and should raise awareness about the value and importance of tolerance.
